We begin the process by either reproducing the client’s supplied logo, or, with the client’s input, the creation of a brand designed by SK’s talented creative team. To help with the selection of product, our sales staff is well versed in all aspects of the promotional industry including imprinted wearables, hard goods, commercial printing and signs. With their vast knowledge of the different applications, they help clients choose the best options for their needs.
SK Group’s acquisition of a print shop in the spring of 2012 was an excellent addition to enhance the clients’ full service experience. A recent upgrade in December of 2017 of our digital print Xerox machine was done to maintain our outstanding level of print quality and best pricing offered in the industry. Our talented creative team is on hand to make sure the clients get the best design and layout for the wide variety of printing services to meet all their clients’ print needs.
An upgrade to a Trotec laser capable of engraving up to 24” x 36” & cutting 1/2” wood & 5/8” plexi-glass was done in the spring of 2014.
As of the spring of 2014, we added a 54” wide format printer for the printing of indoor and outdoor signs, vehicle, wall and floor graphics to complement all of the other services offered. We are excited to be able to offer this service under the SK Group brand. As with all of the other services we offer, clients know that they will receive the excellent customer service and product that they have come to expect from us here at SK Group Inc.
In 2017, two of the staff completed the Advanced Installer Training with training provided by world class graphic installers. They have been utilizing their abilities to wrap and decal vehicles and trailers as well as installing graphics on walls, windows and floors with exceptional results and extreme customer satisfaction. They are the only certified graphic installers in the district and it shows in the quality of all their installations.

SK Group Inc. is housed in an 11,500 square foot facility located at 238 Queen St. East in downtown Sault Ste. Marie across from the Essar Centre.

The production warehouse alone is 5,550 square feet and consists of the embroidery department with 28 heads, the 8 colour, 10 station automatic screen press, the commercial printing/laser engraving department and the bay where custom wraps and decaling is done on vehicles.

The front sales area showcases all of the departments found at SK Group including print, signs/ vehicle decaling, wearables and promotional items and samples of our embroidery, screen print and digital print. In this area, you are greeted by one of our friendly sales staff who are on hand to assist you with all your needs.

A new wearables and promotional showroom was added in 2016 in the lower level. It holds a multitude of samples that we carry and is a place for clients to touch and feel the product as well utilize the sizing samples needed before placing their order. The lower level also houses the screen preparation area for the screen printing department as well as a large storage area for product.

The second level houses our creative team and includes the graphics department, sign department, and management offices.

In 1992, SK Group Inc.’s seeds were planted with the start of Lavallee Distributions, a home-based company that sold pre-printed wearables at events in and around the Algoma District of Ontario Canada. A name change from Lavallee Distributions to Stitch King Embroidery was made in 1994 when an industrial 2 head embroidery machine was added. Incorporation followed in 1995.

From that point on, the company’s growth was exponential. Starting in 2000 through 2012, the company began acquiring other local companies. A small embroidery company in 2000; a screen printing company in 2002; a Web/IT company in 2010 and a commercial print shop in 2012. A partnership with a sign company in 2010 rounded out their acquisitions.

Equipment additions of embroidery digitizing in 1995, a 12 head embroidery machine in 1996, a 6 head wide format embroidery machine in 1999, a 30” wide format printer in 2008, digital copy machines in 2013, a 54” wide format printer in 2014, a flat bed sign applicator 2014, upgraded laser engraver/cutter in 2014, an 8 head wide format embroidery machine in 2014 and a vinyl cutter in 2016.

In 2009 the trade name was changed to SK Group, due to the diversification of products that were provided beyond embroidery with the official company name change to SK Group Inc. in 2013.

With the growth of the company came the move in 2010 from a 4,500 square foot facility to the larger 11,500 square foot facility where it is currently housed.

2014 brought another change to the company when Sherry Berlinghoff purchased the shares from her partner to become the sole owner of SK Group Inc. She has since bought out the partner in the sign division (2014) with the signs now being sold under the SK Group Inc. brand and has sold the Web/IT division to better focus on the other aspects of the business to provide the ultimate branding experience for the client.
